True - I agree that the two are not comparable. However, I also think the rhetoric of governments is less than illuminating as well. To say that there are "terrorist values" and to lump all groups together under the same heading seems like a reach. I thought it was really moving seeing Tony Blair in front of the world leaders condemning the attacks. Yet, how can we compare four guys with 10 pound bombs with the Soviet Union or Nazi Germany? Is it reasonable to lump these guys in with the Chechyan resistance as Putin did immediately after the attacks? It bothers me that I can't remember the last time I heard any of our leaders talk about the reasons for the discord in the middle east, and (perish the thought) our role in creating this situation. I keep getting this creepy reminder of Orwell's "constant war" from 1984. Maybe we need this enemy.
